If starting with a 100% clean flushed or new system, with new compressor and dryer PAG oil. (Polyalkylene Glycol.)

If there's any trace of mineral oil (R12 oil) that will be remaining in the system, the only option is to use POE (Polyolester) oil.

Well, PAG oil is what the systems that originally shipped with R134A use, but it's incompatible with any mineral oil left in the system, makes a horrible "goop"!

POE oil is tolerant of a little mineral oil, but you don't want to mix PAG with it!

On my 7720 I took off the compressor and drained the oil, refilled with pag and recharged with R134a. Never had a problem with it,been 10 years or more since I done it. Also did the same to my 4840.

Another tip,buy your 134a from an industrial supply house, the can will have the same fitting as the R12 so you wont need any adaptors.
