Took the starter off an had it rebuilt ,new switch, new cable ends battery is at full charge. When i push the starter button i still get nothin.what do i try next?when i turn the lights on an push the button the lights go out. Thanks for any help,Don.

Are you running a 12 volt battery ? Did you have it load tested ? If yes to both of these then maybe something is shorting out in the starter switch or starter ? They may of let an insulator out ?

Where are you grounded? Run a ground cable to the frame not the rusty tin battery box.

Had the same problem with my 50 earlier this spring. After much troubleshooting and great advice from this board it was a poor grounding issue with the seat box. Ran a new ground wire down to the frame and she fired right up

Lights go out when you hit the starter button says either you have a bad connection at one or both of the battery cables be it at the battery or be it at the ground or starter it self or you have a bad battery.

ET has it covered .
Most people spend a lot of time and money on the “live side” however they forget about the other half , the chassis return circuit .

Way back when I was a used tractor dealer I lost count of how many Deeres that used the seat box for ground return exhibit those kind of problems. If that's not it I still advise people to remove, clean n wire brush bright n shiny each n every battery and starter and ground connection. Often a new ground cable connection down near the starter fixed things.

Sounds like good advice from you guys.I,ll try grounding it somswhere else and see what happens. Thanks, Don

I ran a groound cable to the frame an had the same result, making sure all of the connections are clean and tight.Any ideas?Tractor always started easly. This happened all at once.

I think you need to find an electrical expert close by and have them help you in person.

Rather strange happenings.

From your description, you have a dead short in the starter or switch. The new switch could be defective.. or possibly the wrong one, their are 2 switches listed according to the tractor serial number, you may want to check that out..

Finally got it running. A new battery did the trick. I,M IN MY EIGHTIES BUT STILL LEARNING. SHOULD HAVE CHECKED WITH A DIFFERENT BATTERY TO START WITH.thanks for all of your advice on this one,Don.

I've bought new batteries just to have to take them back because they where bad from the get go so I learned a long time ago to check the battery first and or maybe swap if not hard to do
