Got a couple of questions about a buddy's M:

1. It starts and idles fine. When I go to speed it up, it doesn't react until the throttle is about 1/2 to 3/4 open then speeds up rather quick. I noticed the rod between the carb and governor doesn't move until then. The linkage doesn't appear to be in any bind. It will run wide open and there doesn't seem to be a lot of in-between. Is there anyway to adjust for this or where should we start?

2. I notice very little to no smoke until the engine has ran 20-30 minutes then I start to notice some grey smoke coming out of the oil cap. It also will puff out grey smoke when I throttle down quickly. What could this be an indication of? It does not seem to smoke at all when starting or running at a constant speed.

Many thanks for the help.

Try adjusting your governor linkage rod (behind air cleaner) 1 & 1/2 rounds long and the throttle rod (to carb) 1 & 1/2 rounds short.

Also if you are looking at this while sitting still and no real load on the machine I found that my MT would go from low idle to high idle without much between. However while driving it with a bit of a load it had much more range of settings. I would adjust per M-Man's suggestion and take it for a drive and see how it reacts if you are not already doing that.

As for the smoke I am not sure. Have you checked all fluid levels and made sure they are full? Are you losing antifreeze into the engine or possibly oil from the Touch-O-Matic into the engine and have a mix of fluids in there burning off?

(quoted from post at 21:41:30 06/05/18) Try adjusting your governor linkage rod (behind air cleaner) 1 & 1/2 rounds long and the throttle rod (to carb) 1 & 1/2 rounds short.

Should I adjust these from their current positions, or start with it all the way in or out?

Here's the page from the manual.
