Unstyled at steering gear adjustment

Just wanted to know if the large jam nut with sloted shaft in center on top of the steering gear is the eccentric to adjust gear lash? I can turn it round and round with no effect on amount of play in gear box. Eccentric bushing wore maybe ? I guess I need to take gear apart and "explore " . Anyone worked on one before ? Any tips ?

The eccentric busing is located below the steering gear. Remove grease the best you can to look for locking screw (below steering gear on side of gear with no teeth) that keeps bushing from turning. Remove locking screw with flat bit screwdriver and then bushing can be turned to move/crowd steering gear closer or further away from steering worm gear depending on which way you turn eccentric busing. Bushing has multiple notches in shoulder to lock it in desired position. Good chance there is allot of wear in bushing. To save buying a new one you can have a machine shop repair it with a wear bushing installed inside of original eccentric bushing. DW

Thanks allot , I am diving into it this afternoon . Great tip on repairing the eccentric thanks again
