M vs MT tractors

I'm not a JD guy so I'm curious about a recent auction that had a M and a MT tractor. I wanted to get to the auction and check them out but didn't make it. What's the difference in them. Are they different models or is a MT a version of a M.

(quoted from post at 15:31:09 06/01/18) I'm not a JD guy so I'm curious about a recent auction that had a M and a MT tractor. I wanted to get to the auction and check them out but didn't make it. What's the difference in them. Are they different models or is a MT a version of a M.

The MT is a row-crop version of the M.
The MT could of come with a tricycle, narrow (single wheel), or wide front end. The MT would of had 34" rear tires. There was also a wide version of the MT with longer axles for cultivating vegetables.

The M came with a fixed or adjustable front end with either 24" or 26" rear tires and front tires were either 15" or 16" based upon the rear tire size.

I have an M, MT (Wide Front) and an MI (Industrial)

The MT has a rear axle that the wheels/hubs slide to adjust to about 84 inch centers. Wheels may also be dished in or out on the hub that slides on the axle. The M has a drop housing with bull gear with the rear wheels mounted to the fixed axle. Wheel adjustment is made by mounting the wheel differently on the axle. Go to johndeere.com then Parts and Services, the Ag Parts and search for M tractor. You can then download the parts manual that shows all versions of the M series.

They are two models of the M Series.
