Flywheel end play

I am wanting to take the flywheel end play out of my GM. I know I should block the belt pulley when doing this, should the clutch be engaged or
not? Thanks for any suggestions, Mark.

Mark,

Have heard guys say to remove the clutch cover and push directly against the clutch bolt, probably a good idea but I always have just engaged the clutch and put a 4x4 block across the belt pulley to push against.

I've always engaged the clutch, then pushed the clutch lever forward and back, without disengaging, allowing it to pull the crankshaft side to side, and got my endplay measurement that way, and moved the flywheel to spec
