1020 Fuel Pump

My 1020 gas is acting up like it is not getting enough fuel or getting an air lock somewhere. I put a new fuel tank on about a month ago and cleaned everything out well at that time. It has always done this though - on and off. It has a farmerized rubber hose from the tank to the fuel pump with a fuel filter. I replace the filter each year. I think the fuel pump is an issue or part of the issue. Looking at the parts manual I noticed what is on there is from a later series diesel, more like a 30 or 40 series with the two towers. My local Deere dealer has the correct one on the shelf for $55 and some change. I am inclined to go pick up the correct replacement and see if that solves my issue however I just don't know enough about those to know if not having the correct one on there will cause my issue. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Might check the screen in the elbow inlet to carb. On my '66 1020, the previous owner replaced the fuel pump the day I went to get it. It ran great while testing it out. Got it home and it started running ragged intermittently. The screen at the carb inlet was pretty yucked up. Replaced that, and it's been running fine ever since. I'd replace that rubber fuel line with OEM, and get rid of the "farmer filter". I'm guessing your tank shut-off screen is clean, since you replaced the tank. Hope this helps.

I had ordered the metal line from Deere a year ago and had it sitting on the shelf at the shop. When I put the new tank in this past winter realized I had the line for the diesel, not the gas. My local Deere has a real good parts guy, and a real bad parts guy. I swear the one guy cannot hand you the correct T19044 oil filter. I ordered 5 this past year and got 5 and some weird filter with an AL number.

Anyways I plan on getting the correct line and when replacing the tank the "new" sending unit for the gauge the prior owner claimed he put in was inoperable and the float full of gas. I guess I will just drain the hole system again and do all these things at once here shortly.

I saw that as well. My local Deere has the Deere one on the shelf though. I might just pay up because I need this thing up and running again by this weekend to finish plowing and discing.

Not based on what JD ordered and gave to me. I think what happened was they used either the European parts book for the 1020 or the 1020,1120 parts book. It is not at all close to the correct fuel line what I was given.
