JD 40 antifreeze migrating to the oil

I have a JD 40. Everything was fine, started and ran out fine, good oil pressure. Then:
*antifreeze began appearing in oil, and discolored it
* antifreeze level in radiator dropping
*NO LEAKS on the floor
Tractor ran out fine from the beginning, but when it smelled hot, I discovered the above. I changed out the oil, filter, topped off antifreeze....and it's doing the same thing.
Is there any way to get to the problem so I can fix it? What is actually happening?
Thanks, I've worked on a lot of JD's, this is a new one.

Removing the valve cover & oil pan followed by pressurizing the coolant system would be the best way to find the source of the leak.

FWIW, our 40U developed cracks in the cylinder head between the valves. This caused the engine to noticeably burn coolant but I don't ever remember any coolant ending up in the basement per se.......

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try. I hope there are no cracks in the cylinder head, but something is cracked to allow the coolant to find its way to the oil, doesn't sound easy! Jerry

Cracked heads are very common on M's. I believe they use the same engine as the 40's. Remove the valve cover and you can inspect the head for cracks. Lots of M's will have welds on the heads in that area.

Other possibility would be a failed head gasket.

I know it's hard to believe but John Deeres do occasionally suffer from cracked heads, cracked blocks and/or leaking head gaskets. The testing
procedires are straight forward and repairs are easy.
