have a chance to buy a 1975 7520 with a bad motor missing hood and radiator. motor that comes with it is out of a 6030. I could use a 4 wheel drive tractor.
what are the goods and bads of this tractor? no 3 point. I hear pto is not live.

The "bad"...

Yes, it's true the PTO is not "live".

2-speed hi-lo is mechanical, operated by a cable, and can't be shifted on the go. If cable gets out of adjustment or sticky and fails to shift fully, the 2-speed can fail.

Traction clutch is "dry" and is an expensive clutch to replace, and it takes a lot of work to do if ever needed.

Cab is noisy and AC system isn't the best.

Be sure to keep front axle full of oil!

They had a reputation for being rough-riding.

The good...

They are a pretty neat 'ol tractor!
 
Buddy of mine has one, likes it real well. We have the front axel out with a busted shaft that goes the spiders. An up date that he
found out is to weld the shaft in. Never had been done on his tractor.
 
Had a neighbor that had one in the early eighties. I was told by him it was hard on clutches and didn't have the HP needed for a tractor of it's physical size. He got rid of it for a 4x4 case and had good luck with that tractor.
 
That tractor is more of a collector tractor than a working tractor. They are hard and expensive to work on. You can buy a lot newer bare back 4wd tractor for the money you would have in the JD 7520 half way fixed.
