Does any one know how to bypass the PTO safety switch on a 4300 JD . The pto light on the dash will not go out I can not start the tractor. I have moved the pto lever back and forth it is still engaged.

Repair or adjust the switch.
Anybody that survives a pto entanglement says they thought it would never happen to them.
Can't ask the rest of the people's about getting tangled in ptos. They are in the afterlife.

There is a "PTO engaged" signal switch (M132725) that shows up on the parts list at jdparts.com. Deere calls it a "neutral start switch", but it is listed a rear pto switch in the parts breakdown. It's a two wire switch with an oval shaped head, so look for such a boot in the wiring harness. It's threaded, and has an o-ring (R26448), so it must go into the oily rear end through the case side. I would start looking with a flashlight around axle height or lower, on the right rear side of the rear end. If the pto is truly disengaged, then this switch might be stuck. You will either cure it when you pull the wires, or you will have to jumper it to get joy, but you might want to find someone who has a book. Best $40 CD-ROM I ever bought. This one on the 4310 is 896 pages, but I believe they changed how they selected and engaged the pto from the 4300 to the 4310, which uses an electrical switch that fires a solenoid, which allows pressure oil to press the pto wet clutch together. Visit jdparts.com and look through the exploded views on your 4300. Probably pick up some info.

All of this is purely guessing on my part.

I may be wrong, but isn't the seat switch in control of that? If I remember right you get up off the seat with the the pto on the tractor died

I think the seat switch is downwind of the pto switch. That way, you have to be in the seat before you throw the pto lever which closes the pto switch which feeds through the seat switch, and lights the pto lamp. Otherwise it's a kill switch. It might even run backwards, or through one half of the seat switch since he is getting the lamp on, presumably even when he is out of the seat????

You were right that neutral switch controls the PTO. All this time I was looking for a PTO switch. I pulled the switch jumped the plug and I was back in business THANKS.

... where is this switch located... i'm having the same issue however i can not seem to locate the switch.. thanks in advance
