3ET batteries

Is there any difference in the quality of the 3ET, long narrow, batteries being sold under various brands? Or are they all made by one manufacturer and just a different name slapped on them? I switched my 4020 over to 12 volts about 5 years ago in hopes of having less battery/starting issues,.......I can't say I have been impressed so far. Not sure if it is just crappy batteries?

In the early seventies I wholesaled batteries for a manufacturer. I remember a case where the new replacement long narrow new 6 volt batteries, were melting the cell connections. The problem was that a long narrow battery with a different number and different specification was being substituted because it fit in the battery box. If you use the number that JD specified when it was a new tractor and still have problems, then fix them. The only reason I know of that a new replacement battery would repeatably fail is that it had sulfated because of sitting around discharged.

I wish there were good ones but it does not seem that there is. The Deere strong box ones last twice as long as the others but cost twice as much. None of them are over 500 CCA. I have about a dozen tractors that use the 3ET's and if they last one day over three years consider it a gift. Wish I had a better answer but this is my experience. Tom

The last set of hibernators I had lasted 12 years . Are you using Two 6 volt batteries or two 12 volt batteries

. While the batteries, filters ,oil fuel and tires are all manufactured in the same factory for a dozen different brand names . Each Brand Name has the battery, filter , oil, fuel and tires built to THEIR specs for THEIR price .
Anyone who think the products are all the same, don’t be pricing any bridges in Brooklin.

What starter did you use ? I tried a 24 to 12 conversion with the factory 12 volt late model 4020 starter and was not impressed. I think the guys now are using a gear reduction starter

I got sick of dealing with them 3ET batteries on my 4020. I made a new battery box and bolted it to the frame rail and use a standard truck battery. More CCA's and easier to access. I would not go back....

I know the correct police will yell at me for not using the 3ET batteries, but my 4020 starts and starts great with the Delco starter that is up to par.

I bought a Strong Box 3ET yesterday the old one was a Strong Box from JD. It lasted 11 years in a 24 volt JD 3020

The other battery is still good, also a strong box. Was also the lowest price around, I always put the date on the battery when i purchase them.

Mixing old and new batteries is not a good idea .

I usually get 6+ years out of a set of batteries on my 4010. When the tractor is not in use, I use a 24v BatteryMINDer to keep the batteries fully charged and desulfating. I installed a fused quick connect at the starter which allows me to connect the BatteryMINDer in seconds. In the words of Emeril "BAM"!
