1010 Timing Issue

My 1010 gas stopped running on me this weekend. I found that the spring arm on the points had snapped in half. Never had that before. Installed new points and condenser in the Prestolite distributor. Now once it gets warm it just falls on its face and sputters. I tried adjusting the timing at the distributor, but couldn't find a happy place at full throttle. Points are gapped at .20. The owners manual does not give much of a timing procedure. Just thinking I need to get out the timing light since it will start and see what I get?

As per the I-T manual the point gap should be 0.022 which while not much can make a difference. But I too would go back with the old condenser. I have not changed out a condenser in well over a decade due to so many being bad right out of the box

Being a Prestolite distributor is should be 0.018" - 0.022" gap, I personally would leave it at 0.020"

If it was a Wico distributor, then it would be set to 0.019" - 0.022" gap, I would also set this to 0.020"

If it was a Delco distributor, then yes it would be at 0.022"

I would suspect dirty or mis gapped points before suspecting condenser went back at same time point spring failed.

So the fix was............. putting in the old condenser or screwing around enough while putting in the old condenser. I double checked the gap on the points - was right at .20. I made sure I had hot blue spark at all plugs. Put it all back together and timed it with a light. Running better than ever.
