48 John Deere G

I have a 48 styled G with an unstyled G head, also known as a flathead. What I'm looking for is a spacer 1/2" to 3/4" that goes between the manifold and exhaust pipe so the two line up correctly. The flathead is somewhat shorter than the styled head. I've searched the internet and cannot seem to locate one. I can't be the only one that has run into this. Thanks, Mike

I suspect maybe many cut and splice the exhaust pipe or maybe just have a new pipe bent up ?

Have you considered an exhaust pipe from a G that used the flat head?
G 7100 thru G 12192, roughly 1939- Dec, 1941 serial numbers.
Parts book calls out AF465R exhaust pipe.
Not sure where you could locate one.

G?s s/n. 7100 thru 12192 used this block and cyl head.
Cyl. Block F485R is 12-9/16 long, Cyl head F486R is 4-⅞?.
Intake/exhaust manifold was F136R.

Dimensions changed with the introduction of the GM Feb. 1942.
Cyl. Block F550R is 11-⅝ long, Cyl head F551R is 5-⅞.
Intake/exhaust manifold was F552R.
Sorry, I don?t have any dimensions on the length of the exhaust manifold.

Thanks PopinJohn, I hadn't thought of that and thanks for all the detail in your response. I'll look into that. Trouble is I just bought a new exhaust pipe and the boss doesn't fully enjoy my hobby all that much. She doesn't say anything but I can sense it if you know what I mean.

History: I put this flathead on the G about 25 - 30 years ago when its original head cracked. It also has high compression M&W pistons. Strictly a 100+ oct engine now (expensive) but really brought the tractor to life. Used it to pull hayracks of people through a haunted forest for many years. Many an old timer would get off the rack and comment on how that old sucker pulled on the hills! And... how good the exhaust smelled (turbo blue). Surprised I never had a head gasket fail!
