The original subject was "John Deere 4020 Hinson Cab Repair".

That?s is a nice job you did on that cab looks like it
should be pretty clean and quiet in there .glad to
see somebody fix up a cab on these seems like
everybody wants to rip the cab off And then put a
stupid rops with canopy on . I would like to put cabs
on both my 3020 and 4020 someday

I will take my stupid roll guard with canopy any hot day over the oven and rattle trap most 4020 cabs are. I have a few thousand hours in a 4020 with a cab and wonder why my hearing is now bad. Give me a roll guard with a canopy and in the winter I will add a heat houser for heat. That being said his cab job was great. Tom

I just spent three 12 - 15 hrs days in the field where it was super dusty & the cab is still pretty clean.

While the new liner & all the re-sealing did help to reduce the noise, it's still too loud to operate without hearing protection IMO. It is, however, a major improvement over our other 4020 with the rattle trap that Tom mentioned. I can talk on my cell & actually hear what the other person is saying when the engine is at idle! LOL

I?m not that big of fan of the canopy or roll guard . That cab is mice when it?s 30 below pushing snow or feeding cows or when it?s Raining just enough to make it miserable . Our 4320 had a cab and I never thought it was to bad and looks better than a rops

On the 4320 the injection pump is on the front of the engine and that takes a lot of the engine noise away that you get in a 4020. I was also told that if you move the priority valve down to the side of the trans case it will also get rid of some noise. Tom

I?m thinking use as much sound deading as possible and fill roof with foam and fill all the structural of the cab with foam and some high heat insulation under the hood it should be pretty quiet

I was planning on putting reflective insulation underneath the rear portion of the hood but never got it done.

75 hrs + of sitting in the tractor the last couple of weeks & a lot of thinking later I also thought it might be a good idea to wrap the cowl for the console & the portion of hood that is inside the cab with the cab liner material.

I'm sure every bit will help but ultimately we have a cab that it is semi-ridgid mounted on a tractor that was never designed for a cab so there's only so much one can expect.

For now, I'm perfectly happy to screw in my ear plugs, turn on the heat or swamp cooler(depending on the outside temp.), & enjoy a dust free environment while lounging in my personal posture seat!!! LOL

It sure looks nice that's for sure. I feed with a gas 2510 in the winter. Ever since I picked up a second 2510 I've thought about putting a cab on one of them. Just use that tractor for winter. I could never make it look that nice though. I've never had the pleasure of riding in one of those cabs before but judging by the opinions expressed on others here for normal use I doubt I'd want one. However since I have a spare tractor it might be nice.

My first cab tractor was a 69 4020 with the Stolper cab.I was so proud of that tractor and ran it over 1000hours a year when we used to plow and cultivate. Until we got our first 4430 I actually thought the noise was fine.I had insulated the side walls and top plus filled cowl with insulation and I am sure in decibles it was still well over 100+.Now I deal in nice 20 series and it is hard to sell one with a cab and when I drive one I cant believe how much noise they have and although they look nice even the Roll Gard with canopy is too noisy for me. We had a 6030 with Hinsen which was better and came with interior but no match for a sound guard cab.Now the newer tractor with open station due to bigger cooling fan and more engine RPMs seem noisy. You did a very nice job on refurbishing your cab.

I don?t know just how they mount but why couldn?t
you also mount the cab with rubber isolators like the
newer tractors ? I am bound and determined to
make one of these cabs super nice if it costs me
3,000$ to do it . . I never really minded the cab on
the 4320 or my uncles 4520 and I really like the cab
on my old 7700 combine sure beats eating barley
dust all day

If you use the tractor much in the winter or cold spring and fall nights you?ll wonder why you didn?t put it on sooner . You can always where earmuffs that?s what I did on our tractors .

Nobody wants to put the work into a cab to make it nice and there is probably not to many guys actually trying to farm with the new gen tractors either a cab can also be a pain if you are using it for a chore tractor trying to get in and out of barns and around buildings .

The front portion of the cab IS mounted on rubber isolators on each corner.

The rear portion of the cab attaches to the ROPS.

I've read that it is important to ensure that the rubber material that goes between the ROPS & the rear axle is in good condition & that no metal on metal contact occurs. I've also read of guys filling the ROPS posts / tubing with sand to reduce noise.
