Got the B running Again But not quite Right

Ok. I got the B running for the 2nd time now. I figured out why it was hard to start. Was not getting gas from gas tank. The little valvenon sediment bowl was open (I thought) and I loosened line and nothing came out. Barely bumped the little valve and fuel started running. Not sure what's wrong with it but I will fix it later.

She starts pretty easy now, but doesn't seem to run quite right. Not smooth and powerful like I hear other ones do. It also doesn't throttle up like I think it should. Seems to miss and have black smoke if I manually run the throttle up at carb. Link to video!!

Thanks for sharing your video with us.

After watching your video, you might consider adjusting the throttle control rod.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]THROTTLE CONTROL[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the throttle rod (Key 4), 1/4 nut (Key 5), throttle rod end (Key 6), and governor arm (Key 23).

Reviewed the [b:654c4848f0]SERVICE MANUAL ON THE JOHN DEERE B TRACTOR SM2004[/b:654c4848f0] under the [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]Control Linkage[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] topic and [i:654c4848f0]Throttle Control Rod Adjustment[/i:654c4848f0] paragraph on page 110-10-

3."[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]If throttle control rod does not adequately regulate the engine speed it may be adjusted. Note that the rod is threaded at the end which is connected to the governor arm and secured with a jam nut. To adjust rod length, disconnect rod from governor lever arm and loosen jam nut. Move speed control lever to the wide open position. Set throttle disk in wide open position. Lengthen or shorten rod end until the rod is 1/2 hole short. Place into position and lock jam nut.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]"

Take a look at the photo below of "Uncle Earl" our 39B.

Note the distance between the governor arm and speed change spring is approximately 1/8 inch.

Hope this helps.

Watched your vid. Carb need built correctly. Gov is working just fine. It can't get idle fuel so gov opens up throttle and it takes a gulp off the load nozzle and that is why you get black smoke some when it does that. My e-mail is open if ya need more info.

Just had it rebuilt by one of the best around here. Is it an adjustment?? Is it related to fuel supply issue like I was having before.....fuel from tank to carb?

EMAIL ME. My email is [email protected].

You have a carb issue for sure. If you have not set the needles up you should do that. Initial 1.5 to 2 turns out on the idle and 1 on the load. Also check the float level.... it should be set up at .5 of an inch from bowl edge to top of the float. Best way to do that is upside down with a
ruler.

You also may want to check your clutch driver and flywheel. It looks like it is shaking a bit too much. Make sure they are set up correctly with the marks on the crank and disk/wheel are on the correct spline.
