Positive Ground Fuel Gauge VS. Negative Ground

Is there a way to hook up a positive ground fuel gauge in a negative ground system? I have a thought that you could swap the positive and negative wires and get it to work... but I also do not want to try and burn up a new gauge. Are they just built differently?

The reason I ask is I have a new positive ground gauge that I would like to put into a negative ground system instead of forking out the cash for a new one, if I can help it.

If your referring to your JD1010, I don't think your going to make this work if you can make it work I would like to know how.

I ended up installing a fuel gauge on JD2010 from a 30 series 2 cylinder. I know its not original, but its better than the alternative.

You won't "burn up" the fuel gauge by switching between (+) and (-) ground.

Worst case is that it won't read as accurately with the ground polarity switched.

Some fuel gauges are polarity-sensitive that way, others are not.

I would just go and get an aftermarket neg. ground fuel gauge. They are not that expensive and easy to find.
Now the pos. grd. ones are hard to find and usually expensive ! I you haven't hooked it up and burnt it up yet you should be able to sell it and get the proper one.

No I got that one working right the other year and this is a left over gauge from that. I have a 430 that showed up that a friend owns that is changed to negative ground with an alternator. I owe him a favor and am helping him to get things on his dash working again. I was hoping I could just use this one instead of order a new one.
