John Deere 4020 Hinson Cab Repair

Good day!

I'm in the process of replacing the seat & overhauling the seat suspension on our Hinson cabbed 4020 & would like to give the interior some attention as it's in pretty rough shape.

I see Fehr makes floor mats & liner kits for these machines but I still need to address the clutch & brake rubber boots, hood to cab seal, door & window weatherstripping, etc.

Anyone know what's still available for those types of items or any recommendations on substitutes?

Thanks in advance,

Glen

Hey Paul,

Fehr only lists the liner kit and floor mat for the 4020 on their website but I can give them a call to be sure

I'm pretty sure I could track down the door & window weatherstripping along with the cab to hood seal from a jobber supply by looking at pictures of their products that show the profile of the seals along with dimensions. The trouble I have is our factory seals are long gone & were replaced with generic foam strip type weatherstripping years ago......

On that note, would the weatherstripping on your 4320's doors & windows still happen to be intact? If so, any chance that you could take a picture or 2 for me? Maybe even a picture of the cab to hood seal as well?

I was just hoping someone here had been down the restoration / repair road before with the Hinson cabs & had a line on parts suppliers.

Thanks for your help & suggestions!

Glen

Traveling now but will get some pictures when I get back.

Just call Norma, as I recall, at Fehr. She?ll help you.

Just wondering what the trick is for installing the rubber dust boots on the clutch & brake pedals?

I can't imagine stretching the boots enough to fit without ripping them but obviously they got the originals on there somehow........LOL

Thought I would post a follow-up to this thread for anyone interested in repairing their Hinson-cabbed tractor.

We were able to get the majority of our parts from Fehr Cab Interiors, some from JD, & the rest from auto or building type stores.

[/u:d421f7b78c][/b:d421f7b78c]

1" closed cell foam material - tailings from Fehr(used to seal front cab filler panels & other gaps too big for silicone / cut to fit)

Spray adhesive(same stuff Fehr supplied for installing liner kit) - used for securing foam material to filler panels & other areas where needed

Expanding spray foam (used to fill around seat cowling & transmission and on gaps around front floor boards

RTV clear silicone (lots LOL - for all the small cracks / gaps)

It's no Soundguard cab but it is definitely much quieter & cleaner than before. :D

Looks like a real good job, there Glen. I will be using some Fehr parts if and when I can get the cab back together on one of my projects, as well.

Thanks!

It turned out OK & the finished product is 100% effective but I ended up with a few wrinkles in the cab liner around the seat area so it's far from a Concourse worthy resto. LOL

On that note, installing the cab liner is tricky and you only get one shot at getting it right so you will want to test fit all of the pieces multiple times & have a plan in place for how you're going to install them once the glue has been sprayed. An extra pair of hands during this process is definitely an asset. The instructions that come with the kit are very clear & accurate: Some of the peices may require trimming to fit properly. Don't glue anywhere where the liner needs to tuck under something - once you touch a portion of the glued liner to a glued section of cab, it's all over. It's stuck! No sliding it around to line it up better. LOL
