43 unstyled AR Idle problem

I have a 43 AR. Starts with one spin, runs great but won't idle very slow. When I pull back on throttle it will die. Carb was rebuilt but I have not touched idle controls. Not sure how slow it should idle. Any help is appreciated.

So, is what you're saying is that when you "pull back on throttle' to idle it down...is that when it will die? Or when you try to open throttle up that it dies? Unhook the throttle rod and see what it will do operating by hand. That will eliminate any linkage issues. If it does same then it's not linkage. if it cures the problem than it IS linkage. Here's how to properly adjust needles. Make a note of where needles are now ( count turns to closed) just for reference and comparison to where you may end up after adjusting. Let us know how it worked out. RB { open load one turn and idle two turns. Make sure plugs are clean/new. Start and warm engine for 10 min. Now, throw open throttle to at least 3/4 throttle. Now slowly close load needle all way. If properly re-built, it should stay running with no change. Now slowly, few clicks at a time , start to close the idle needle until you hear the slightest change in speed and/or sound , or just until engine stops. At that point, open idle back up 1/4 turn. It is now set. Now open load back up 1 turn and re-start tractor. ( at whatever throttle setting you usually start it best at) Now , while at slow idle, quickly throw open throttle and what you want is a quick acceleration up to fast idle (wide open) It should puff a couple dark puffs and accelerate with out hesitation. May have to open load another 1/4 turn but one is usually sufficient. Now, idle it back down and with throttle all the way back so arm on carb is On the stop pin , that will be your "slow idle". If the arm does not sit against the pin, try adjusting the screw on arm that contacts the spring. If that doesn't bring it back , then you probably need to adjust your rod coming to carb.

It dies when I pull back on throttle. Will slow some then if I keep pulling back it will eventually die. I will try your suggestions and see what happens. Thanks for the help
