55 and 60 series electronic hitch delete

For any one out there that is having major issues with the hitch control system and would care to delete the electronic part of it ,,it can be done fairly easy.un plug and remove the rocker switch at the rear of the console,, run a fused wire from the accessory terminal on the circuit board under the left cowl,,run it through the cab floor and over to the rear of the back side of the console and up to where the rocker switch was,,using a momentary 3 position rocker switch (part #58027-04 from OReily auto parts) attach that feed wire to the middle terminal,,run a wire from the other 2 terminals down to the Up/down solenoids on the rockshaft this will let you raise/lower the hitch and it will stay put in any position, it will eliminate the load/depth and auto set functions,,But it will work well with out those functions. The diagnostic trouble shooting/repair sheet can be bewildering to most,,as well as replacing expensive componates and wire harnesses.. I realize this is not the normal way to make the hitch work...but it is a fast economical way to get the tractor back into the field.. As we see these newer electronic operated tractors get older we will be coming up with ways to delete troublesome control boxes and sensors...

Very useful info Tim. My buddy has 2 4955's. On one the 3 point has been an issue for a while and the other he just started having transmission issues with. Not sure I can relate to all you are telling but it is very helpful to know! Thanks again!

That?s been done on a lot of older tractors with electronic hitches. The only thing I?ll add Tim is if you use a relay for up and for down then the load isn?t on the rocker switch. And a limit switch could be installed for the full raise position.
It would be similar to the set up on most boats that have electric tilt/trim

Yes the use of a cube relay does help take the load off the switch in many applications. In this application the switch is activating a magnetic pilot valve so there is very little Resistance and if it is held in the up/down mode after the hitch is clear up/down it is not as demanding as a regular solenoid would be. To add to the use of cube relays there is a short harness available that plugs into the cube nicely to make a clean installation,,I get mine from Kimball Midwest.

So should this cube relay be used as well? My friend tells me he has spent several thousand dollars trying to get this lift to work. Claims it can move several inches up or down and cannot hold stable position. Could this help solve this?
