Changing oil in 1931 GP

I just bought a 1931 GP and I need to change the engine oil. I have manuals ordered but won't be here for another week. Could some one who has a GP tell me the procedure for this. I'm sure it need washing out and not sure about the filter system. Thanks for your help in advance.

Drain the engine oil, loosen the tee handle on the oil filter and run the plunger up and down a few times to back flush the brass filter. Pull the drain plug on the filter housing. Drain the valve spring cavity on top of the engine and refill it to a level that the oil is touching the valve springs. The valve cavity isn't fed any oil out of the crankcase. The valves are splash lubed by the oil touching the valve springs. My GP seems to use oil from valve area.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Would not have known about the valves until I got my manuals. The valve spring sump had the correct amount of oil and it's been years since it was changed as far as I know. So the big bore doesn't have a screen in the bottom of the main case like the D and others huh. Do I need to prime the filter befor I crank the engine or not. Thanks again

The oil filter is the housing sitting on top of the engine with the Tee handle on top. The brass filter is similar to the ones in the bottom of the engine on newer tractors. I think the manual say to rapidly pull the plunger up and down immediately after shutting the engine off. You shouldn't need to refill the oil filter. On my GP the red head oil indicator will pot up when you are cranking the engine over by hand.

There is a screen on the bottom of the pick up tube, but not servicable. I think the large chunks just fall off and back to the sump.
