John Deere 620 friction disk replacement

Changed the oil in my 620 over the weekend and found
pieces of the friction disk in the bottom of the oil pan. Is this a
big job to replace the inner fiction disk. Any help or
suggestions greatly appreciated

sorry just looked at parts diagram...the thrust washer is on the outside of the main so it doesn't have to be removed....little puzzled though what you found....doesn't make sense that any of this would be in the lower case....

There should be two friction dicks, one inside of the main bearing and one outside under the slinger. Not keeping the crankshaft end play adjusted properly destroys them.

looked at diagram again and ET is correct...there's an inner and outer....which requires the main to be removed...however you could do this without removing crankshaft....but it is a big job...you'll need to probably remove the shifter to get to the inspection plate access....it is really tight in there...I mostly worked on 520s but the 620 is similar. The main difficulty will be to get the lines loose from the bearing housing. This will require some short and bet end wrenches. As I recall the housing gaskets were a little difficult to obtain and be cautious in replacing the o rings...it's not a job for the beginner....

CUTE!

DEERE simply called 'em "thrust washers"!

I was curious and looked at the parts book. I don't think there are any oil lines you need to unhook from the inside. The parts book shows the packing that seals between the main case and main bearing housing. If that's the case it shouldn't be horrible to fix.

there is no need to remove oil lines or the crankcase cover when you pull the man off you will see
there is a packing to seal the main to the housing the oil line that feeds that main hooks to the
hosing on the inside
