2955 clutch problems

Neighbor friend has a 2955 mfwd with problems. The clutch peddle seems like it has to resistance and won't allow it to go into gear. But if you sit and let it idle for a few minutes it will work a little while, then it doesn't work again. The other problem he is having sometimes when you go to shift it it seems to lock up between two gears and snubs the engine because it won't move. Then he horses around with the levers and gets it freed up. Any ideas anybody? Or should we throw a stick of dynamite at it. Thanks

Forgot to add when the gears jam up the high low lever doesn't move,or the high low doesn't work sometimes.

Is this tractor cab or open station model? If cab model I suggest to check brake fluid in clutch reservoir & then probably bleed air out of slave/master cylinders. On trans sounds as if shifter linkage needs attention.

Yes, take the cowl off over the instrument panel, clutch linkage and reservoir is on the left side

Hey,
We have a 2555 with the same setup. The master cylinder is under the cowl. I have changed it a couple of times over the years. They are kinda cheap and get gummed up over time and stop working. Just hope it's not the slave cylinder because that's inside the bell housing and requires splitting the tractor to get at it. It's never been our problem, at least so far. It's available from Deere and they have a much cheaper alternate part that is exactly like theirs but half the money. Good Luck!
