Remove clutch drive disk on JD 60

I am trying to remove the clutch drive disk on my 60, and the official JD service manual shows a puller with to clamps under each side of the gear teeth. Yet when I look at the drive disk itself, it has two slots on either side of the gear teeth where it looks like you can insert the heads of bolts that would then attach to the puller where you can leverage off these. My question is, which is the correct way to do it?

I would think that using the gear teeth as leverage, you could break one of the teeth very easily.

Also does it help to put heat on the drive disk? This one looks like it never has been off before.

Are there any other things I should know that would help me when trying to take this off ?
 
I used the two bolts in slots with this puller on mine. No need to worry about breaking gear teeth on this mess as you can see. Made the decision which puller to use easy.

Do just what dan is doing, it works for me. Also make sure you find the two "V" marks on the crank and drive disk, at least mark them some how it will help with installing the new one if it isn't marked.
 
WOW never seen one that bad? Nice part is , it doesn't take too long to figure out what is wrong.....
