I bought a 71 model 4020 yesterday, my question is the tractor had a cab when bought new has been taken off sometime ago but it doesn't have the tool box under the left side of the seat, was this how the came from the factory? I'm the 3rd owner local tractor 7400 hours and never been painted, it was a hay tractor never had a loader and all controls very tight, I'm proud to own this piece of John Deere history

If it had the factory Hinsen cab they had no rock shaft covers and also the floor board would have been replaced as it was part of the cab. They do make the reproduction covers and the center mounting piece or they can be found at salvage yard but have to be for 69/72 and the same ones fit 2520/4320.The 4000 never had them from factory to cheapen them up and look like something is missing.

Congrats, IMHO they are one of the best tractors ever built.

You should be able to pick up the missing parts at a scrap yard.

There are far less good sheet metal parts for late model side console tractors than for the older models. Salvage yards charge accordingly.
