Radiator Gaskets

I am replacing the radiator core on my 52 A. I got the core and gaskets from a well known vendor for John Deere parts. The core fits right, but the paper gaskets do not line up with the holes in the tanks. I have turned them every direction. Some of you say to "use cork and make your own." The surfaces are good: I had them surfaced. One vendor sells the cork type. If I use cork, should sealer be used? I would appreciate your knowledge and experience. I used the paper on my 520 with no leaks, but they fit. Thanks

Is it possible the new gaskets that don't fit have dried out and shrunk?

Toss 'em in a pan of warm water for 10 minutes and try again.

Yes they do shrink, I run them under warm water and massage them a bit, they will fit perfectly, funny thing they dry out quick and fit just fine, you won't have a mushy gasket when done. Thought friend was nuts when he told me about this also, I have no problem doing it when necessary. Also I use Permatex No. 2 for the gaskets, not much just a little to change the color of the gasket and get just a thin bead to see when tight/help with imperfections in the old cast. Waterpump gaskets also. chris

Doesn't matter where you get them, JD, CaseIH, or Agco I've wet them all if needed, just a trick of the trade.
