Best manuals for Model B

I?m a recent new owner to a 1946 Model B. I see several
different types of manuals (operators manual, shop manual,
etc), and several different publishers (John Deere, I&T, etc).

Which manuals are a must for a new owner? Which publisher
creates the best manual?

Thanks

The john deere service manual sm2004 is THE BEST ! Not sure if Deere still sells it or who's reprints are good though ?

My $.02. The owners is a MUST. But, keep in mind that info like lubes is out of date. I'd hit the archives of this site for recommendations on that. Some of the best lubes now are not at all good for the materials they used then. I&T isn't bad for the price and covers "most" things. Shop manuals are good if you're doing a lot of critical work on it, but can be a bit pricey. If it has hydraulics the shop manual on that might be a good investment. What do the rest of you think? You've got a good little tractor there and I hope you have a lot of fun with it!

The owners manual tells you how to operate and care for the tractor. The shop manual tells you how to fix it when it breaks and the parts manual not only shows the parts for the tractor but the exploded diagrams give you insight into how they fit together.

I would also add that the videos from Roberts on repairing carbs and magnetos are cheap at twice the price.

I'm the kind of person who likes to have the info on my equipment that allows me to understand how they operate and work on them if required, so I have all of these. But if you do not feel the same desire, that's alright too. The hobby takes all kinds.

x2 on the Davenport manuals. It comes in loose paper so you have to buy a binder separately. I like them in binders anyway because you can lay them out flat on the work bench and keep the book open while you work.

I recommend the Operators manual, Parts manual and the John Deere service manuals. As far as I am concerned , these are musts. I think John Deere still sells
these but are a little pricey. There are several venders that sell these, I think Davenport Tractor has the best ones. The I&T manual is ok but it only hits the high spots and covers several tractors and can get you confused, not worth the price.

Lots of good replies - thank you. I?ve got SM2004 on order, along with a JD Operators Manual. Best prices are by far on EBay.

Thanks guys.
