replaced clutch disk on my 730 gas, new disk greased bearing, put back together now it snaps in good , but no snap when you pull back, can springs do this , should I replace springs they are mashed together?

I have a B that does the same thing, clutch doesn't seem to slip but I have never plowed with it. Cut and rake hay but never a hard pull with it. I suppose that weak springs might cause that. Let us know if you do replace them if the snaps reappears.

Only way to renew a clutch is to do it right. Put in new bolts, dogs and toggles as well as the springs. Make sure the pin is not wore or the hole is not oblong on the sliding collar.

Does not need a LOT of "Snap" either... Most 2 cylinder clutches are adjusted absolutely too tight..about all that accomplishes is the clutch is hard to engage/dissengage..

Plus, you have a $50.00 Clutch Bolt break more often..

I keep mine light enough that they only lightly "Snap" in and pull "out" pretty easily.. This is how my 720D is adjusted and I plow with an F-145 4x16" in 3rd gear, with NO signs of any slippage or heating..(course, you need to be able to tell Venting Gases at the Clutch breather from what is going on in the clutch )..

On a JD "B", you can expect a lot of venting for the 1st hour you are working the engine hard...until the crankcase heat dries out the moisture..the same for the other models as well..

If you aren't "Pulling " on a Stone Boat, you have no reason the have the clutch do more than give a nice easy/medium snap..one an 8 yr old could operate easily..

Those 3 springs are really pretty light and about all they could do is give a light push to move the Pressure Plate away from the clutch-pak..

Springs are cheap..I would change them anyway..

It was all me , I had the disk with rivets on the bolts you adjust, took apart redone and now works fine thank you all. I guess this todays funny

Venting is normal and is basicly moisture exiting the engine crankcase..

It is BEST to work the tractor long enough to see that the obvious "Venting " is over, to help keep moisture from migrating up into the Mag...which
Is a real bother..!!

I wonder why no one mentions moisture in the Mag as a problem... It sure was for us if the tractors had to be left over night in the field..!!

Backfires would wake folks up 1/2 mile away as we tried to start them..!!

Sometimes we had to wait for the Sunshine to dry out the Mag ( Mag cover removed)..10 minutes would be about all it took..

There would NOT even be any sign of moisture, but they would not start until the Mag was aired out with some Sunshine..!!

I have all new clutch parts in both my tractors with both adjusted light. Neither slip, plow with one pull a weight sled with the other.
