A friend having some issues with . He lost prime after having the oil changed . He is a farmall guy so he didn't know about the red head . He wants to know if he can temporarily run a gauge to figure out his troubles ? Plus should he run a extra gallon of oil ? Wondering of anything else to look at for problems .

I remember reading about guys running extra oil on the early ones with the side mounted oil pump.

Consider packing the pump with Vaseline. That will give it suction and the Vaseline dissolves harmlessly into the oil.

I worked on a friend's A with the same issue. I ended up doing some machining on the castings where it wasn't sealed up good because of a rough surface, allowing it to suck air. Not the pump side plates but the external pieces connecting to the oil line.

Had that problem with my 35 A with the side pump. A couple extra quarts of oil in the crankcase solved it.
