JD 3010 oil filter cover

Went to start my 3010 this spring and I saw oil on the ground under the engine. On looking closer I found half of a thin metal cover. I suspect that cover was used to keep the oil in after the filter is changed. My guess is that water had gotten into the bottom of the housing and froze causing the metal cover to break.
My question, is this the filter for the engine or the transmission/hydraulics? Thanks in advance to those who reply.

NOT sure what you found, the engine oil filter is accessed through a cover on the LH side of the oil pan, Key # in the drawing.

The hydraulic filter is farther back, on the left hand side, as well, Key #3 in the second drawing.

The square cover is the oil filter. The round one is for hydraulic filter.

(quoted from post at 17:44:56 04/05/18) Bob you must not know your left from your right. The engine oil filter is on the right side of the engine

Really I agree with Bob & I sure think oil filter is on LH side of oil pan on 10 & 20 series RC tractors similar to photo.

Thanks all! I will let you know tomorrow when I take a closer look at the place the cover came from.

Kent Peterson, you wrote "Bob you must not know your left from your right. The engine oil filter is on the right side of the engine".

Kent, if I'm understanding you correctly, you must be saying "right is the new left"???

All's well, Kent!

Making a "gaffe" once in a while is all part of "GURU" status around here!

I know I've certainly made my share!

little late to this show. .... those covers are cast something or uther.. doesnt take much to brake cast when tightened.. tightened like you would a tire.. also hope there wasnt any water in there.. my guess not seeing it was over tightened.. got hot cooled off snaap..
