Making new LI axle

If I am making new axle, should I look at putting thrust bearings in on bottom instead of washers?

I think the M might have used those.

It will steer easier with thrust bearings IF they are kept lubed.

If anyone needs to do this:

2 1/2 inch schedule 80 is perfect match for main tube, and 1 1/2 schedule 80 is perfect match for spindle tube.

Thrust bearings didn't come along till the 40 model. Some folks use the 40/420 bearings in the M's though.

This site has thrust bearings and spindle bushings for a 420 up, that is a 1.375 inch spindle, I will measure and see if LI has same diameter. They are pretty cheap here, and would save me a lot of time over punching out and reusing the old components. As suggested, I think bearings would turn lot easier than a thrust washer, and owner is a lady that is a few years older than I am.

The ID of the bushings are the same and the 420 and up, I am boring new holes so does not matter, but the OD is probably same too.
