CAN YOU TIME THE INJECTION PUMP ON A 3010 OFF OF THE TIMING GEARS OR MUST YOU TIME OFF OF THE FLYWHEEL TIMING MARKS ?

NOT sure if the timing gear marks are lined up @ TDC, not all engines are set up like that.

Thinking about it, they probably are, IIRC, that's what you go by to insert the oil pump shaft in the correct orientation so the pump drive slot is where it needs to be.

In any case, the marks on the LARGE OD of the flywheel would be MUCH more accurate that GUESSING when the gear marks mite be at greatest center alignment for final timing of the IP.

What's the issue, are you trying to time the IP without the engine installed on a clutch housing so you have no stationary timing mark?

Ether way will work,, if the front cover is off the timing marks lined up will be #1 TDC on the compression stroke,,with the fly wheel marks the #1 TDC mark "could" be 180 degrees off,,if you look into the hole where the pump goes and you see the little arrow on the oil pump shaft pointing towards the engine you are on the correct turn with the flywheel..
