4440 Air Seat Replacement

I would like to fix the air seat in my husband's 4440 for his birthday. The seat and cushions and everything look fine, but it might as well be mounted on an upturned 5 gal bucket bolted to the floor. Do I need to replace the whole thing, or can I just replace the hydraulic seat accumulator? Or should I just get him a john deere tee-shirt, a remedy for a sore backside and make him a birthday cake?

Does the 4440 have a hyd or air seat. If it has hyd seat probably the accumulator(key 36 or 40) has lost its charge of nitrogen. Most JD dealers & some independent tractor technicians such as Tim S on this site have ability to charge if bladder is still good.

If tractor has air seat I'd suggest to check for blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker

As Jim stated if it is the original seat it is Hydraulic, not air,, the accumulator that goes bad on them is easy to replace, simply , with the tractor "off" unscrew the old accumulator and screw the new one in place,, the hard part is the price, around $250, and they come "uncharged" which means some one will need to charge it with 90lbs of Compressed nitrogen before you install it,,your dealer should have a method to do this for you..
