Combine Engine in 4020

I'm sure this has been discussed but I am obviously not smart enough to search the archives. My friend
has a 1966 4020 diesel with a bad engine. He has a 7700 with a turboed 404 in very good condition. The
combine is pretty well shot but the engine has very few hours on it. He is wanting to swap the combine
into the tractor. What is the possibility of it fitting? Seems I read of a swap, but not sure what
engine. Also, would the turbo come off and the naturally aspirated manifold go on so he would not have to
run the turbo? Thanks for any help - Bob

Bob I have a number for a guy in S.W. Ia that is an expert on repowering with combine motors.I do know the most desirable motor is the non turbod 404.The inline pump and turbod engine creat a couple problems that can be overcome My email is open and I will be glad to give you his #. I had an exact same motor that was in a 7700T and it was sold to be put in a 4020 and they were going to use the turbo also .Another expert is Tim S. on this site. Its a lot easier to use a knowledgeable person that knows exactly what you need before you start.

Engine will bolt up but intake valves are small for
natural aspiration. Fuel consumption would be outrageous.
4020 engines are easy enough to find.

I used a 404 out of a 105 combine to repower my gasser. When my old 7700 was retired to put the motor into a 4520.

Did this 3 years ago 7700 t in my 4020 gas. They bolt right in the frame.4430 oil pan,4020 d clutch, machined front pulley from 3 to 2 grooves and machined where hyd pump bolts to now 2 grooved pulley, use combine water pump with 18'' flat flex racing fan on water pump ,grind groove in combine rear engine for hydraulic oil line to pass the bell housing to the front ,modify throttle linkage to in line pump.the turbo placement on the combine engine to tractor is a little difficult it will fit under the hood but the exhaust housing on turbo sets to close to the hood can burn the paint.Went another direction I used a M&W turbo manifold with some modification and turbo.Tim s on this site has another way to do it.Look at how he did it with his photos.
