This is a great tractor for my flail mower. If I change the oil in the transmission, what would be another brand of oil rather than JD oil which is rather expensive at the only JD dealer in town. What about auto part store oil? I have several independent oil dealers near me also. Stan

What ever hyd oil you put in your 401B be sure oil meets or exceeds spec's for J20C. Having brake pads deteriorate from wrong hyd oil is a very expensive repair especially if down to ""metal to metal"" that causes metal fines in hyd system. Does your tractor have hyd reverser or hyd hi-lo?

For as little as it holds and how long you can go between changes is saving a little money really worth the risk of a wrong oil ? That's how I figure it.
