1530 water pump rebuild

I'm in the process of rebuilding the water pump on my 1530. The bearing and seals are trashed and I can't tell how the rubber and ceramic seal orients to the impeller. Does the ceramic or rubber seal go immediately next to the impeller?

Considering time vs cost , I bought a new AI pump for my 1640. Make certain that all gasket and goo is scraped off the castings . It is critical that a new water pump pulley and a new alternator pulley are installed . New belt as well. When was the last time the hydraulic pump bushings were replaced ? The water pump pulley and alternator will require adjustment to ensure alignment is true after the belt is tightened .

Typically the ceramic ring is mounted to the back side of the impeller in a rubber boot thing and the spring loaded carbon ring/rubber belows is mounted over the driving shaft to engage the ceramic ring bearing on the carbon part. Ceramic here just happens to be purple, they are usually white.

I have not kept up with all the "improvements." In the 90s, Deere was starting to use self-sealing Scotts-seals in many water-pumps.

If what you have is the original set-up, a rubber gasket goes into the recess in the impeller. Then the cermamic disc goes into it an is a sealing surface that rotates against the stationary lip of the new seal.

If a newer Scotts-seal - no ceramic used anymore in the impeller. Scotts-seal seals against the bearing shaft.
