The right cylinder on a 2 cylinder

On my both my A and B the right cylinder seems to not be as strong as the left, seems like plugs don't burn as clean either. Also u can pull the plug wire of the right cylinder and it don't seem to contribute as much as the left. But under a load it they do fine. Anyone else notice this on the 2 cylinders?

While running at idle, pull the wire out of the mag. or dist. on the left side. will it slow down & keep running ?

"Anyone else notice this on the 2 cylinders? "

Yep, 'most everyone that's ever owned a pre-duplex carb "Johnny Popper".

The intake stroke for the RH cylinder occurs so soon after the intake stroke for the LH cylinder that the fellow on the right gets shorted a bit on fuel.

Then, there's a bit of extra time before the LH cylinder again draws a fresh charge.

In an off power no load lower engine speed idling situation the right cylinder doesn't have to do much to maintain the engine speed relative to
the setting of the throttle's position so the throttle butterfly valve in the carburetor only lets in enough fuel air mixture to fire the left cylinder
which is first to fire adequately to make an audible combustion in the firing order.. The right cylinder is carried by the inertial momentum of the
left cylinder's combustion and only gets enough fuel air mixture to make a very weak combustion, if any combustion at all. So, the spark plug
isn't always as clean from complete combustion as the left one, especially if the piston rings are worn substantially allowing some oil to be
sucked by them on intake strokes and not cleanly burned. The right plug can soot up badly in a worn engine subjected to long periods of idling
operation, maybe even foul resulting in misfiring of that cylinder.

(quoted from post at 19:35:51 03/12/18) My 48 B is the same way. When I had it over at a friend's a couple years ago and we adjusted the tappets we first noticed it. I attributed it to work or sticking rings on that side but an older mechanic and farmer who used 2 cylinder tractors assured me the right cylinder was always a bit lazy for the reason stated above.

They did starting on the models 50 & 60. Made a big difference but mostly noticeable at idle.

You ask a good question "Anyone else notice this on the 2 cylinders? "

I sure do and many other people also.

There's ONLY a single barrel carb to feed BOTH cylinders. The right cylinder fires and ONLY 180 later the left fires, theres a long 540 coast cycle before right fires again, therefore, its typical to see the effect you observed. When they went to a 2 barrel carb that situation was vastly improved.

Nice to know Square Dancing and Round Dancing is popular there..!

Same here in Ohio..many + Level Clubs and fair number of DBD, A1, A2 classes and dancers..

I am plenty happy with a floor full of GOOD + level dancers especially if the caller is GOOD...

Been taking "Rounds" for a year and a half and am working on "Jive" and "Slow 2-Step"..which I think id weird..!!

"Angeled" with our Club for 34 years now...they graduate in April (Yeay..!!)...

Remember: your Right Thumb is always on the Left side of your right hand and vice-versa..(IF ya DON'T turn your hands over)..!!
