55H plow newbie question.

Ok I admit, new guy with a plow. Be gentle on me. Picked up this 55H added a lift cylinder, polished up the moldboards and towards yesterday evening gave it a spin or two around a field to see how she would do. Did fine for a while and the next thing lifting mechanism where the hydraulic cylinder attaches to the raising portion of the plow cantered over below the break over point and now the cylinders action wont lift the plow because its pushing below the break over point. I tried to show in this picture before I put the cylinder on shown (with the red arrow on the piece that cantered over too far down). The yellow lines are where the cylinder attaches is. Tried several things but the more I moved the plow the deeper it got so I unhitched it last night and left it in the field for now. Wondering if I retracted the lift cylinder too much to cause it to do this?? I remember the old deer cylinders had stops on them, perhaps that's the problem? Anyone have an opinion?

Now to raise the darn thing. I guess I will have to put the loader back on the tractor and lift the plow out of the dirt? Unhook the hydraulic cylinder and get it back to normal position?

Thanks Kent, What size cylinder would you think would be correct for this old plow. I had looked at some other guys posts and wound up getting a 3 x 8in stroke cylinder?

3x8 should be right. Did you get a cylinder that the clevis on the end can be adjusted on the threads ? If it is make it longer.

An 8x3 would be the correct cylinder. This is what I use on my 55H to plow the garden every year. But what you can do is put a couple of "stop collars" on the cylinder to limit how much the plow can drop. I usually put a couple of those on my 66H field plow to limit the drop. Al
