What is the best way to remove water pump? Is there enough give in the o-rings to slide pipe or does the whole inlet / pump need to come out as a unit? Anything to know making disassembly / reassembly easier?

For me I have found that to remove the housing from the cylinder head, water pipe and water pump as one assembly is the least frustrating way. If you install new orings at both ends its hard to reinsert the water pipe when the water pump is on the tractor. Measure and mark the center of the pipe before you reassemble to make sure the pipe is inserted the same depth on the cylinder head housing and water pump. The oring sealing area on the pipe is not that large and is usually pitted/corroded. Do some measuring and marking before you take it apart so you know the distance from the water pump edge to the cylinder housing edge.

What I did on mine was I cut two inches out of the pipe in the center with a saws all and then repaired it by slipping a piece of radiator hose on it with clamps. Not the right way but it works for me. Had to remove water pump last week and was glad I did this a few years back.

(quoted from post at 16:41:18 03/10/18) thanx folks, got it off and rehabbing now. Deere is fond of impellers, that's for sure! Thx again - PM

Aren't they though. I just put one in my 630 (I think... hard to keep track of 9 tractors when you forget to take notes). For the price of the impeller and other parts (bearing, seal, and gasket), you can get a new one on this site. Just an option to consider...
I rebuilt mine because I'm stubborn. And I didn't have to repaint it.
