John Deere model 70

Have a JD 70 gas tractor. Is a model 810 3x14 3 pt plow A Good match for this tractor? I've never plowed with a three pt, and it's been many years since I pulled a plow of any kind. Appreciate your input. Thanks a lot. Rusty.

In this part of the country a 3x16 would be more appropriate, after all, we plowed with two John Deere D's back in the 40's and 50's and a 70 has lot more horses than a D. But, depending on your soil, maybe 3x14 would be about all a gas 70 could handle.

It will as long as it has the adapter for the 800 series top link and a depth wheel. I used one a lot on my 70. Actually it was probably an 813, but they are about the same thing. 810 is a newer version. I also used one on my 60.

I didn't get the top link with the tractor so I have one from tsc. What does the adapter do and what does it look like. Since I don't have the origional top like will I still need one? Thank U much for your reply. Rusty

I have a JD 70 with the 800A hitch and a 3-bottom 810 plow. Not sure what kind of 3-pt hitch you have, but if it is a factory 800, then you will need what is called a "Horse Head" on your 810 or 813 plow. Sometimes these adapters were removed if the farmer had a newer tractor like a 720. The 810 plow works, but in my opinion, it is not near as good as a 55 or 555 JD 3-bottom pull type. Also, make sure the plow has the gauge wheel. Otherwise it will be hard to control the depth as the JD 70 does not have depth control hydraulics. Attached are a couple of pictures when I had my 810 plow on my JD 70. Hopefully the pictures will show what you need. Al

I have used my 813 plows 2 x 16 on both a 60 and 70, Both tractors can run in 4th gear in our soil. The 801 hitch top links can be used with or without the top adapter.

So how did you connect the top link evener on your 800 hitch to your 810/813 plow without the adapter on your 60 or 70? Just curious as it's not obvious me how one would do it. Al

3x14’s is a good all around plow size for a 70. You can pull 3x16’s but with 3x14’s you can make it through the tough spots without lugging way down or down shifting.

If it is not an "All-Fuel" 70...

Friend plowed with me with his JD all-fuel 70 and 3x24 plow.No jointers, Moldboard extensions..nothing and it had had a Very recent valve job..

1/2 mi. long field..bean ground,, i would pass him every 2 rounds with my AC WD-45 and 4x14" semi-mounted plow..

A GAS 70 would be about right for a 3x14"...I thought they would pull more...

One thing more, that JD 70 All-fuel DRANK gas faster than we could haul it in.. The WD-45 would average 1 1/3 Gal/Ac plowed.

I use an 813 3x16 plow with my 70D's and have not had the chance to use my 70 gas yet. This pow is a great match for the diesel and it plows great. Having several plows to use that include 3x14 and 4x14 as well as 2x14 i like the 3x16 the best. Maybe Tyler will check in and tell me why the moldboards (sp) look different on this plow. Sure plows nice.
