4230 quad range stops pulling, no steering

Let me first say this is second hand information as I haven't witnessed the tractor myself. A man I help farm some has fairly early model 4230 quad range tractor. He tells me he was going down the road a week or so back in D range and when he went to shift it to high gear the tractor quit pulling and he lost steering and the tractor veered to the right.

I'm puzzled with what could cause both of those things to happen at once. When it was first described to me the phrase "shifter locked up" was used and I got to thinking that maybe it was in 2 gears at once or something to do with the linkage. But after hearing a better description, it seems like it maybe rode out of gear, but even so it should be able to get it back in gear
somewhere and he says he can't get it in any gear. He did say he let it sit overnight and came back and drove it a little more before the same thing happened again. Could an internal leak in the clutch be causing this? But I can't see how a leaky clutch valve would cause it to come out of gear.

Whatever it is doesn't sound good. Thanks.

Steering motor needs overhaul. I agree with TIM the quad range high-low pipe blew out . It would cause a loss of oil pressure, I think it was a two fold deal at the same time .
