I have a John Deere 730LP with the high 1st gear, 2nd over reverse, and I?m looking to convert it to a creeper 1st gear. I?ve been told by a few people how easy it is and the parts are readily available, but no one can tell me exactly what it entails. Does anyone have any insight on this or know where I can find the info on swapping to the creeper 1st gear?

Thanks.

1st remove the flywheel cover and flywheel,
2nd remove the cover that is just to the rear of the crankshaft (just need to remove the large cover, the small cover held on to the big cover with
3 bolts stays together),
3rd remove the two 7/16" bolts and big washer that are on the top shaft and slide gear off,
4th losen set screw that holds shift fork to shift rail and slide fork and gear off bottom shaft,
5th slide the creeper gear on bottom shaft along with the fork back on the shift rail and tighten set screw back on shaft making sure tip of screw
engages the notch or hole for it,
6th replace trans cover, flywheel, and flywheel cover.

make sure to set crank end play with the flywheel .005-.010 is spec. flywheel bolt torque is 275 ft-lbs, a few guys on here will tell you to replace the flywheel bolts but i never have, up to you, if they are rusty and in bad condition in some other way i would replace them.

if i remember correctly you don't have to drain any oil but you butter double check where the level check plug is in relation to the cover and that will give you your answer.

the gears will have a different arrangement on the shift quadrant, you can just remark them with a paint pen or change quadrant bu removing 2 bolts that hold dash to quadrant and 2 bolts that hold quadrant to trans cover, lift dash just enough for clearance and slide quadrant back and up off shifter, then reverse it with the replacement quadrant. not sure how different things are with the dash on the LP's but that is what i did on our gas id doesn't have to be lifted much there are no dowel pins or anything so you only have to take the weight off quadrant.

you will need F2609R gear and F3001R quadrant and F2629R gasket (available from Deere) if you want to replace the gasket on the side cover

assuming the flywheel comes off with out to much problems it should only take between 1 and 2 hours to switch gears and quadrant out.

For all a new set of grade 5 or grade 8 Bolt, nut and hardened and washers cost . I’ll splurge the price of a six pack of beer and replace them rather than use stretched fasteners .
