If you know what this is hold your tongue. If you dont know take a
guess just for the fun of it----------- What is this hanging in front
of this Fuggie.

That was my first thought--one of those crazy things they tried to put on tanks for the D-day invasion.
My second thought is, if you drive in reverse, those things on the bottom of the chains could be row markers for planting seeds.
Either guess has the same likelihood of being correct...
 

It is to get critters out of the mowers way. Great answers gentlemen. Still some got caught because of a natural reaction "Fight" "Flight" or "Freeze" Freeze is the killer.
 
Surely it slides to the operator's right, out in front of the cutterbar, and serves to scare up game birds before the mower's cutter bar gets to them. Sickle bar mowers are pretty hard on birds.
