John Deere 520 three point hitch creeps

I?ve got a John Deere 520 that the 3 point hitch won?t stay up on, any
weight at all and it bounces from creeping down and lifting up again.
Is there a check valve that can be replaced or anyway to get it to hold
and not creep and bounce? Thanks in advance.

Does it also drop down on it's own if the engine is shut off ? First thing I'd suspect is the cylinder o-ring.

PJH is on the right track when he said piston O ring leaking.
They call this hunting when the 3 point constantly is jerking up
then settling down. I had this same thing on my 520 years
back and the fix wasn't terribly hard. Good luck

JD has a VERY nice service manual just on those units. I highly recommend it. Trouble shooting charts in it too. Sorry I do not have the manual number handy.

The JD Service Manual for Custom Power Trol is SM 2022 and the section covering
the piston and cylinder is 60- 25- 1 This manual has wonderful detail and makes
the job much easier. Good luck.

I've never had any problems with my JD 520.....however here are a couple of pics:
