Have a neighbor who is looking to by a 4440 quad range tractor. D range don't work, how much money would it take to fix. Thanks

It is most likely a broken thrust washer, but it's a major job to repair, pull the cab, final drives rockshaft and split..in my shop it would be about $2500 labor,,parts list is a wild card,,several other things should be repaired while your in there,,parts would be from $2000 to $4500..

If your friend can buy the tractor for around 5K and with the $7000 he will put in it makes it about what it's worth. Any way a 4440 with quad range is worth 12K-13K here in southern Id. Not much demand for a tractor that small around here any more.

4440 at a local farm auction last summer brought $28,000. Southern Indiana. Usually find them listed for sale at 18--24K.

A 12k 4440 in decent shape? They are several thousand higher than that. Ill buy all the decent 12k 4440s you can find.

A good 4440 with under 8K hours bring around $20K.Tires,interior,AC working, number of SCVs and condition plus history can swing that $5K either way. They actually are bringing more than 5 years ago.Fixing the transmission takes a minimum of $4K+ due to labor. As you can see from Tims post its not an adjustments. Savage value is around $5K+ as the cabs sell well if nice.If a tractor has been laid over most insurance companies want a completely different cab due to liability. The nice 4455s bring about what they cost new if nice.

I went through a 4640 with a quad range some years ago. It looked like Tim's project below since it was broken down into as many pieces. It was NOT an inexpensive repair, but we went through and repaired/replaced/rebuilt all that was necessary. I didn't skimp as I wanted to be able to keep the tractor for many years to come and be able to depend upon it. As I recall, I had lost the low side of the Hi-Lo was the symptomology. As it turned out, the pinion shaft and ring gear had been ruined, possibly due to the thrust washer Tim cited. As I recall, we ended up replacing the pinion shaft and ring gear, replaced both B and D Range gears, rebuilt the clutch and Hi-Lo, the brakes had some attention, all new bearings in the transmission, and we may have even given some attention to the axle bearings. Too much time has passed since that work, so my memory may not be all that clear.
