4020 safety start switch

The transmission safety start switch (synchro) does not work now that tractor is back together after a split to fix a pto gear. I am concerned that something slid out of place inside the trans when I had the cover off and the shifter linkages unhooked. Parts diagram shows some kind of short pin associated with the safety switch. I'm going to have to take the cover off again, aren't I?
No problem except for the four hydraulic lines that have to come back off to get the cover off.

The shifter needs tightened up,,loosen up the clamp bolt on the top shift lever, then just firm in back up a bit, now pull out on the lever and at the same time tap it with a hammer this will draw the shaft out through the lever then retighten it,careful not to over do it the can break easy,,what this does is closes the gap and let's the safety switch make contact.

Your method worked perfectly. Pulled the shifter shafts out another 1/16 to 3/32 inch and the starter cranks right over.

Doing that and some times removing any shims under the safety switch does the trick.. I make sure that all safety switches work before the tractor leaves the shop..
