John Deere B oil pump and lines

I'm 16 and new to this forum and 2 cylinder john Deere's in general but my newest project is a late styled B (haven't looked up the SN yet). Here is the back story. This tractor has been sitting in a barn for 25-30 years partially disassembled. I wanted to use the space for a engine swap I'm about to do in my truck so I decided I'd get the tractor running again. The engine would turn about 1/4 of the way over and stop (I didn't know the oil pump was locked up) so I put the tractor in high gear and rocked it back and forth by hand until the engine freed up the rest of the way( I didn't know it at the time but I broke the oil pump drive coupler). After a little mag and carb cleaning I got it to fire up but after about 45 seconds or so before I realized it didn't have oil pressure and shut it down. I checked the oil only to find that the crankcase was full of nothing but 20 year old gas. I went to drain it only to find a massive amount of sludge covering the drain plug so I decided to pull the top cover off and flush the crankcase out with diesel fuel. While scooping sludge out of the bottom of the case I found a broken L-shaped piece of metal(half the pump drive). After a little bit of web searching and printing off the parts diagram of the tractor last night I figured out the pump had locked up and I had broken the coupler.

Now for the current news. When I went to pull the gears out of the pump today to clean them and free them up I discovered that the oil line to the right hand cam bearing was broken off by the fitting and that there was another line (long with kind of an s-shaped bend in it) laying loose against the pump drive shaft. I will try to get pictures tomorrow. where can I get these lines and they are extremely hard to get to, is there some access cover that I haven't seen?

Sorry for the extremely long and jumbled up post I'm in a hurry to type this and I'm just tying to explain what I've done so far.

Welcome to the forum!
Looking forward to your
pics. I,and many others
have had to replace that
pump shaft coupling. Mine
was frozen when we tried to
turn it over by hand. Too
bad there isn't a drain
plug in the oil pump cover.

Where are you located?
Richard in E. Ontario.

Just a note---that coupling is part number B250R. Sorta hard to locate in the parts
manuals.

Sometimes I get lucky and find used parts cheap on ebay. Any tractor junk yards around where you live ?
I have also made up new lines by drilling out line from the old fitting ( lathe works great ) and soldering in either a copper one or a steel brake line. You can sometimes just use the proper fitting for the brake line as where the originals screw in it is just 1/8" pipe thread.

Be careful of the free advice you get on this site. I would never weld a $10 Part back together. I have couplers
available as well as oil lines. If you think I can help you out give me a call @ 573 535 8952 . Thanks, Tom Ziegler

Well I got a bunch of work done to the tractor today. Got the oil lines unhooked from the pump and dropped the pump out of the tractor. I figured out the lines that are busted is the small diameter line that runs from the flywheel side of the oil pump to the governor, and the line that runs from the oil filter head to the clutch side cam bearing. Does anyone has these lines or knows where I can buy them? I found both halves of the broken coupler but I plan on buying new one, probably online unless anyone knows where I can get one cheaper. I also got the gears out of the pump, got them cleaned up and was able to put the pump back together using the original gasket with a very thin coat sealer smeared on it. I did take pictures today but I will have to figure out how to post them from my phone(hopefully soon this evening).

For those that ask where I'm located I'm in south eastern Mo.

The first and third picture show the broken line that should go from the pump to gov. The second and fourth show the line that runs from the filter head to the cam bearing

I got some more work done on the tractor today. I got the cam oil line removed and the rest of the sump cleaned out. Now I just need to get the parts and start putting it back together. I talked to a few people and they referred me to a local 2 cylinder guy so I think I'm gonna give him a call tomorrow and see if he's got the parts. From everything I read the lines are a real pain to get to but once I removed the pedestal it actually isn't that bad.

Ha what a small world. I just reread the replies to this thread and realized that the "local 2 cyl guy" is you Tom, I'll probably give you a call sometime tomorrow evening after I get out of school.
