Thought Experiment-Pre-SoundGard Cab on a Mannheim 50 Series

I feel like I'm about to stir the hornet's nest with this one...

I have been wondering for some time now, kind of as a "what if" question with no real practicality, if a pre-SoundGard cab, like the ones I see on 4020s, for instance, would fit on say a 2550. Or a 2950.

Not saying it would be practical. Not saying it would be easy. Not saying it would be pretty. Not even saying I'd ever do it. Just wondering about "what could be..."

I have virtually no experience with those pre-SoundGard cabs, but I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thought about the possibility....

Just put a metal bucket over your head and beat on it with a stick. Same effect. I don't like those early cabs.

just my 2 cents worth but i guess it all depends on the wad of $$ you got in your wallet.
first off if you own a nice 2550 and it has no cab, go to a wrecker and get a sound guard and bolt it on...fits and done
if you got a 2550 with no cab and want to be out of the wind, dont care what its gonna look like, go to a wrecker and get
a tin can off a 3020 or 4020. tie it up in a tree, back the tractor underneath and cut the rope... done.
the bottom line is resale value you are going to have quite a difference. and if you are going to go to the work of putting
a cab onto a tractor that originally didnt have one, spend the extra and put one on that fits.
it will save a lot of labour. and be a lot quieter.
lets kick the hornets nest

I have read that they're quite loud...

I guess what got me thinking about this is that the "deluxe" fenders that started on the 2-cylinder Deeres were still finding themselves on the 50 series Mannheim tractors, some 30 years later...

Oh, I'm with you. If I had the $$, I'd convert my 2550 to a SoundGard in a heartbeat. Can't beat heat in the winter and AC in the summer...

I'm just kind of "shooting the breeze" here with this question...wondering what *can* be done...

Yes back in the day cab manufactures such as Year-around & Hiniker built cabs to fit JD utility tractors built from '66-'92. With correct cab insulation the noise level was a lot better than North wind blowing at gale force & below freezing temps.

We had a John Deere 401-C (2440 equivalant) that had a Sims cab. I think it might have been available through Deere???

Back when I worked at the dealership I put a Year round cab on a 2840,,it fit like Socks on a Rooster,,there was nothing good about it,, hard to get into ,,noisy,, hot in the summer...

I have a 2640 i have been putting a Hiniker on. Converted to orbit steering, raised clutch and brake 12", modified cab
to make it a four post rops and did away with factory rops. It is mounted on rubber isolation mounts. It doesn't
vibrate. Once everything is painted this winter I will spray it with lizard skin to deaden sound and put a padded
interior in it. Cab sets a foot higher than where OEM seat / floor was. Basically where a 2940 would be. Looks like it
came on tractor. It isn't for the faint of heart. It is not a bolt on. It has many hours of fabrication and a good bit
of money in it. But the tractor is paid for, I have been through it from one end to the other and it will be as
comfortable as a $55K new one for a small percentage the price. I would post pics but best i remember they have to be
online somewhere to link to and they aren't. If interest is there to see maybe I can make time to figure out a place to
put them.
