Not very many of these in my area. A friend owns one that he thinks is having carb problems. He's convinced it's the small solenoid that screws on the carb towards the bottom about where the main jet would be. Personally I think he has crud in the carb

The carburetor is a Marvel Sheibler....I always thought the solenoid was an anti-dieseling deal that shuts the fuel off when you kill the tractor. Other tractors(maybe not Deere) have the main jet adjustment screw where this Deere has the solenoid. The tractor owner say's ID wants $300 for the carb solenoid

Just what does the carb solenoid do on a 1520 gasser??

I also always thought they were an anti diesel solenoid. could be wrong ?
I also think I saw in an owners manual where you can remove the needle in side and flip it over or something like that to by pass it in case it goes bad.

That is what the solenoid is for. I'm not sure you can eliminate it on that model carb
with a load needle like you could on earlier 1020/2020 carb but if you could you would
get a loud bang as you're getting off the tractor plus maybe a little rust in your eyes.
If the solenoid is bad the tractor won't start. Touch the solenoid while turning the key
on and off. If you feel clicking it's OK. If not be sure there is current to the connector.
If there is the solenoid is bad = $305.32.

The solenoid is bad. I had friend take the carb off and drive it over to me. I messed around with the solenoid and it's dead shorted. I backed the screw off/out as far as I could turn it. still was not enough to allow fuel flow...so I put a vise-grip on the screw and turned it some more. Got the needle down and seems it will flow fuel now.

I took the main jet out and cleaned it...took the top off and cleaned all the jets and ports...was clean inside and looked ok.

Friend came by last night and picked up his carb. Going to install it this morning..so we will see if it runs!

It probably won't run right. That screw you backed
out is the load adjustment screw. Should idle ok though.
