Clean up jobs are hard to put a time table to
because it?s a lot of work cleaning everything up
and do it right

A job like your doing can easily have over 40 work hours in it at just about any shop. Actually it would take most longer these days. There are getting fewer mechanics that actually did many of these so the new guys will not know any short cuts or tricks to make it easier. I can do them a little quicker as I do not have to take the cab loose as I can support it with an overhead crane. I just roll the entire transmission and clutch housing out.

Yes the cleaning is hard to put a time on. Have always figured a Quad Range overhaul (includes the bottom shaft) as a 40 hour job. I too leave the cab in place whenever possible.

I had a pal (now deceased) that had a stopwatch for each job on a clipboard. He would have his required repairs noted and space for extras. Every time he worked on a particular job, he would start the watch and stop it when that phase was done, or interruptions occurred. Pretty accurate way of billing.
