3020 gas hours

Is 7500 hours considered high hours for a 1967 3020 gas tractor narrow front? It looks in good condition, and I am going to look at it tomorrow. The guy wants $4500, but if it is good, I plan on offering $3000. What should I look for other than obvious like smoking, oil pressure, etc? I already know it has a cast iron carb. If you got to STITZEL FARM EQUIPMENT in PA and search for 3020 you can see 11 pics of it. Has anyone did business with these guys? Are they reputable?

I've been to Stitzel"s many times but haven't bought anything. I have no idea
how they get so much equipment. They don't have a bad reputation around here. so they must be treating people right.

If they are like they were years ago your offer will not work. They are a good many stories about Paul Stitzel. He might even be dead as we moved away from that area 12 years ago and his son was running things then. Many of them tractors have been setting for years. When New Idea quit building corn pickers he bought all they had left and had new ones for years after anyone else. There might even be a few new ones still rusting in the weeds. He started out small with a few milk trucks and a few used tractors and then got huge almost overnight. There were stories that he was in with the mafia laundering money at one time. If you ever met Paul those stories would be very easy to believe. Many years ago at a sale with Dad and Paul was talking to a couple of other dealers and someone said how they did not like someone and maybe Paul could get the guy bumped off for $10,000 as a joke. Paul replied I could get it done for a lot less than $10,000 and there was no laugh. I know a good many other stories as well. They sold lots of machinery because if you wanted it they had 5-10 to chose from. Most likely they were the biggest on the east coast. Tom

Been there many times to browse the inventory, piles of stuff, weights, 3pt hitch Parts, top links, won’t deal on them unless you buy a tractor. Tried to buy an old cab over Pete they had, but never could get a price.

Heard lots of stories over years, all believable, I won’t discuss them on an open forum. But it begs to question how you can keep so much inventory rotting into the ground and stay in business. I remember me and a buddy of mine chatting with him and he was telling us about the farm in Virginia he just bought, never saw the place and really wasn’t sure why he bought it.

Honestly I’d look for anything but a gas 3020.

$4500 is high for the shape the tractor is in. That being said, you won't buy it for $3000. They are very set on their prices an usually won't budge more than $100-$200.The yard is loaded with tractors that were in good shape when they first arrived 10-15 years ago but haven't been started or run and have deteriorated into salvage tractors now but they still want close to retail for them. Exhaust weren't covered, batteries froze and cracked, tires severely weather checked. It's a shame
